Thank you for visiting the Beiriger Elementary Website. As I enter my fourth year as Principal of Beiriger Elementary, I am confident as ever, that the 2017-18 school year is going to be a great one! Mrs. Mouratides will be returning as our Dean of Students/Instructional Coach. She and I have worked carefully on defining goals we have for this upcoming school year. We will diligently work on improving students’ writing across all curricular areas, along with implementing and following the RTI process with fidelity. Teachers and staff will have training throughout the year to help accomplish these tasks. Another goal we have is to teach life skills to all students. Our focus will be on respect, etiquette, accountability, organization, proper use of technology, and having a goal-oriented mindset.
Our school has approximately 500 students in Pre-K through 6th grade. Art, Music, Gym, Library, and Computers are offered to all students, along with having many opportunities to become involved in a variety of activities such as Student Council, Choir, Band, Safety Patrol Spell Bowl, Math Bowl, Science Bowl, Robotics, and Girls and Boys Fitness. The Northwest Indiana Special Education Cooperative provides special education services to our students in grades Pre-K through 6th grade.
Beiriger is one of three elementary schools in Griffith, Indiana, and was named in honor of businessman, Peter J. Beiriger who was a school board member for 29 years from 1907-1936. Beiriger Elementary School was built in 1969 and beautifully remodeled a few years ago. The Beiriger Parent Teacher Council is very supportive and dynamic. I encourage you to become actively involved in the P.T.C., as they work closely with the staff to help provide the best educational environment and learning opportunities for our students.
In order to keep updated with all school information, please read our monthly newsletter and plan to attend the monthly P.T.C. meetings. Visitors are always welcome at Beiriger Elementary. When visiting, please enter through the front doors and obtain a visitor's pass in the office.
As we prepare to begin a new school year, I look forward to building relationships, observing many wonderful teaching moments, and interacting with all students to support their learning, success, and happiness in our school. Here’s to an awesome 2017-2018 school year!
Mrs. Ashley Cotton, Principal
