Dear Griffith Public School Families:
We are happy to share with you information regarding a 3 part program being sponsored by the Lake Central School Corporation called: “Playgrounds to Pills: Prevention begins with Parents”, “Stairway to Heroin”, and “Wake-Up Call”. Through the generosity of the Lake Central School Corporation, Griffith Families have been provided the opportunity to participate in these events.
“Playgrounds to Pills: Prevention begins with Parents” will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at Lake Central High School. A resource fair will begin at 6:00 pm with the presentation beginning at 6:30 pm. “Stairway to Heroin” will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Lake Central High School. This event will begin at 6:00 pm. “Wake-Up Call” time and date for this event to be determined 2018.
Every day in the United States, 2,500 youth (ages 12-17) abuse a prescription pain reliever for the first time. 52 Million Americans over the age of 12 have misused prescription drugs at some point in their life, including 1 in 4 teenagers. Yet, we know that teens who consistently learn about the risks of drug use from their parents are up to 50% less likely to use drugs then those who don’t get this information from their parents. Attending these events might be the most important thing you do as a parent this year on behalf of your child.
Please join us in learning more about teaching resiliency and refusal skills at an early age, childhood brain development and its impact on decision making skills, and parenting strategies that make a difference in alcohol and drug use risk reduction. Attending these events may save the life of someone you love.
