    Home Stretch……

Welcome back!  I hope everyone enjoyed their Spring break with family and friends.  It is hard to believe that we are in the “home stretch” of the school year.  With that being said, we have quite a bit yet to accomplish!  ISTEP part 2 is right around the corner.  Part two of the ISTEP begins the week of April 16th.  This section of ISTEP is a 3 week testing window.  Being present and on time, eating breakfast and a good night’s rest is so very important.

    Acknowledgements

90% of students reached their AR goal!  So very impressive!  How will we reach 100%?   Mrs. Jaros will __________ if 100% students reach

their AR goals!  To be announced…….. J

38 students participated in the Lake County Read a thon!  Super job!  Thank you also to Mrs. Zarndt for all of your efforts to make this happen.  Congratulations to David Sellers for winning the raffle of the giant Hersey Kiss.

    Tardiness and Attendance Reminders

Student promptness and regular attendance is extremely important.  Tardiness interrupts the educational process and routines of students.  Missing instructional minutes cannot be made up.  Many times directions, hands on activities and classwork are missed when tardiness occurs.  Let’s strive for regular attendance and promptness during this Fourth quarter.  ***Note students are tardy after 8:15 am (M, W, TH & F) and 9:05 on late start Tuesdays.  Also, if your child will be absent from school, an excused absence is required before 9am.  Excused absence consists of verified personal illness, death and funerals of members of the immediate family, serve as page in the Indiana General assembly (not counted absent), legal medical quarantine, court attendance required by legal authorities and religious holidays (GPS elementary handbook, page 16).

    Pick Up Procedure Reminder:

For safety reasons, please do not park along Jay and oak streets, to pick up your child.  Please abide by the car line when picking up your child.  Parents/Guardians are not allowed to park in lots, across streets, visitor/handicap spaces to pick up children.  Parents who walk home with their child, please remain in the grass/sidewalk areas.  If a change in transportation needs to

be made, a note or call (prior to 9am) is appreciated. I am currently working with the Town of Griffith, Griffith Police and a Safety specialist team to ensure our students safety.  Unfortunately, we have almost had car accidents, injured staff and students.  For our safety of all, I am requesting that all car riders adhere to the car rider line.  It really does go by quickly, as we have an efficient procedure in place.  Thank you to all that have been diligent in doing so and expressing your concerns indicating that others should do the same.  Many have expressed the unfairness of those who do not abide by the car line and the safety issues that have arisen because of those who do not follow procedures.  Let’s work together this last quarter to ensure a safe, smooth, efficient pick up process at Wadsworth.  Thank you for your cooperation.
