Literacy - Reading/Writing
Summer school classes will focus on the five essential components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The comprehension strategies such as prediction, context clues, questioning, main idea, and summarizing will be explored as well. These summer school classes may include interdisciplinary literature activities, independent and cooperative projects, and written responses to literature materials to supplement the program. The use of technology as a reading tool will be incorporated. All classroom instruction will follow Indiana Academic Standards. Instruction will be designed to meet the needs of all reading levels.
Grades 4th – 5th
Classes will incorporate Indiana Academic State Standards at each particular grade level and will offer both reading and writing activities. Your child will further develop their reading comprehension skills and will build on the reading/writing connection. Pre-assessments will determine student’s learning needs and will drive instruction. Post-assessments will measure growth.
Classes will incorporate Indiana State Academic Standards at each particular grade level and will offer activities to strengthen your child’s mathematical skills. Your child will focus on number sense, computation, geometry, measurement, probability and problem solving. Pre-assessments will determine student’s learning needs and will drive instruction. Post-assessments will measure growth.
